Foot, Knee & Back Pain
Did you know that how you walk could be causing pain all the way up to your neck? When thrown out of balance, one thing can lead to another, and pretty soon everything hurts, and sometimes what hurts the most isn’t what’s causing the problem. For instance, when my knee hurts, if I massage the muscles from my knees up the side of my leg to my behind I find that my piriformis muscle is tight and is actually causing the pain.
It took about a year for my foot pain to go away, during that year walking brought me to tears many times. I had bone spurs on my heels as well as the plantar fascia pain. Insoles and soft surfaces provided a little relief. I suspected my shoes were part of the problem, which was confirmed when I bought a new pair of shoes, the pain went away almost immediately, unfortunately I suffered for a year until I did that. After watching the first video below, I now regularly do the toe extensor stretching as well as walk around without shoes on for a more natural foot spread.
The term plantar fasciitis is fairly well known these days, there are a ton of videos online on how to fix it and stop it from hurting, with stretches, wearing boots, injections and/or surgery…these solutions may take care of the more immediate symptoms, but do not address what caused it to start with. It is a painful condition that, over time, usually corrects itself. I believe proper footwear and insoles help, especially when heel spurs are involved, but in my opinion boots are unnecessary, as are injections and surgery in most cases. In fact, if fasciosis is the problem, caused by the ligament being stretched tight and cutting off blood flow to the foot, the boots might even be causing more harm than good.
I did find a few that actually focus on the root cause of the problem. I wanted to share a few videos that go into a more detailed explanation of the condition, and how it all ties in together.
This first video explains the difference between plantar fasciitis (inflammation) vs. plantar fasciosis (tissue death), prevention vs. conventional treatment, and explains how the foot works and how shoes today are a big part of the problem. Be sure to watch the toe extensor stretching video that goes with this series, https://youtu.be/h2kaEOd3GcI, and check out the rest of their channel if you have other foot problems.
This next short video shows how alignment issues affect the body as a whole.
This video demonstrates correct walking motion, which balances out and relaxes tight muscles, while developing and strengthening the weaker ones. It also helps maintain your spinal alignment; sometimes even correcting misalignments. When balance and symmetry co-exist with correct walking and the muscles move the joints properly. This results in very little wear and tear on the joints of the body.
Most of the time my feet don’t hurt now, but if I do manage to overdo it, I have a nice bottle of CBD massage oil and a hubby that helps. 🙂 I hope you found this information useful. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
