Can You Make Money With Stickr.co Car Advertising Decals?
I joined Stickr.co mostly because I was curious to see if I could really make money by simply putting a decal in my rear car window. Other companies I looked at have restrictions on the age of the car and/or the hours you must drive to be qualified with them, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sticker.co did not because I drive an older car and not many miles a day, mostly getting my kids to and from school or work.
These are the details you should know about. Stickr’s monthly membership fee is $7.99. This is reimbursed every month with your earnings. Note: In order to get paid you do have to remember to verify that the decal is still on your car and in good condition by submitting a photo of it no later than noon on the second day of the month, along with a code word they give you to include in your photo so they know the photo is current. To be on the safe side, just plan on submitting your photo on the first of the month. If you fail to do this you will not get paid or reimbursed for the previous month (i.e. to get paid for January’s commission, submit your photo February 1st). It’s pretty straight forward, don’t forget or you won’t get paid, they make this clear in all of their communications. I have read reviews from others who claim they didn’t know, but you really have to totally ignore everything the company sends for that to be true, the fault does not lie with the company in that regard.
This is what I paid when I joined, because my curiosity got the better of me I pretty much signed up for everything:
$7.99 Monthly Membership
$15.00 to join the Affiliate Program
$29.99 for Double Revenue Share…you’re counted as two drivers every month, doubling your share of the commissions earned.
$4.99 Decal vinyl upgrade…more durable, easier to place and remove, free replacement and free shipping for future decals.
$19.95 for the Premium Driver package, I’m pretty sure this was to be notified of premium campaigns that pay a set amount, rather than campaigns with unknown commission payments, although I can’t seem to find any further information on it at this time.
In all it was just under $80, however only the $7.99 membership fee was required, the rest was optional. And so began my journey.
I joined on a Saturday, 12/28/19. I received a text from the company the same day confirming my address for shipping the decal, and saying the decal would be shipped out on Monday. I did receive it the following week, but got busy and didn’t get it installed for a couple days. I submitted a photo for approval on 1/6/2020, and was approved by 1/8/2020.
I submitted my verification photo on 2/1/2020 and was approved the following day. By 5:00 pm on the 5th of the month my earnings were listed in my account dashboard, just as they said it would be. I received three (3) $25 gift cards and $13.19 total commission. Subtract the $7.99 reimbursement and that leaves a little over $5.00 commission for the month of January, it probably would have been a few cents more had I been approved the entire month, but since I wasn’t officially approved until 1/8 my commission was adjusted accordingly. I simply clicked the Cash Out button and by 2/10 the money was sitting in my PayPal account, all $13.19 of it, no fees taken out.
That pretty much sums up the business end of it. Now, for the campaign details. They had three or four advertising campaigns to choose from, I went with the one from Discount Gift Cards because the decal looked a little more fun, I haven’t tried the others yet, so I can’t speak about them. It offers a free $25 restaurant gift card if you take a picture of the decal in my window, post it to Instagram and hashtag Stickr in it. I had a couple friends help me check this part out, and I was a little disappointed in what happens from there. What it doesn’t say is that you also need to upload the photo at Stickr.co, or that they charge almost $6.00 to mail the gift card. The average person would post to Instagram and do the hashtag, but have no idea they needed to upload the photo at Stickr.co as well. One friend waited a day to see if a social media manager would message them on Instagram and tell them they needed to do more. And no on wanted to pay $6.00 to mail a $25 gift card, which feels like a scam to me knowing that it can be done online, that’s how I get mine.
I was also disappointed with the lack of available cards on the Discount Gift Card site, although I understand it operates on the premise that people must first sell the gift cards they don’t want before they are available to buy.
On a positive note, the $25 restaurant gift card is through Restaurant.com, which does have a fair amount of restaurants participating. You can purchase discount gift certificates with cash ($4 for a $10 gift certificate, for example) or by using a gift card code. The restaurants have varying amounts of certificates available ($5, $10, $25). I was really disappointed to find out that the gift certificates weren’t used at face value, I couldn’t use a $10 gift card to buy a $10 meal, it required a minimum purchase of $20, so it would only cover half the bill.
I also found when I went to use it on an order for the first time that, stated in the fine print at the bottom of the certificate, it says, “Only one Restaurant Certificate may be redeemed per party, per month, per restaurant, even if the party is seated at separate tables and/or receives more than one check.” The restaurant I was going to order from only offered $10 gift certificates, with a minimum purchase of $20. So my $40 order, which I was planning on only needing to pay $20 for, turned into $30 because I could only use one gift certificate, and apparently I can’t even go back and use the second certificate I got this month, I have to wait until next month.
The process of figuring all this out has been a bit frustrating, I wish it was all a little more upfront. You’re going to be disappointed if you are expecting to get a free $25 meal. However, if you plan larger meals with restaurants that offer larger gift certificates, and smaller meals or treats around restaurants with smaller gift certificates, then getting up to 50% off your bill is nothing to be disappointed about.
In the end, this is not going to be a get rich quick deal, I didn’t expect it to be, and the company never made any claims to that effect, but I’m okay with $5 profit and $75 worth of restaurant gift cards just for putting a sticker in my back window. I’m sure the commission amount will vary from month to month, and as I said earlier, I can’t make claims on any of the other advertising campaigns as far as how they operate and their earnings. This company does what it says, it pays on time and seems to handle operations in a timely manner. That’s better than some companies I’ve dealt with over the years.
